Shame lives in the shadows of everyday life, and most of us have experienced shame at some point. It’s that feeling that something is wrong with you. Feeling shame is often a response to stories we have told ourselves, that others have told to us, or stories from our community and culture. I've been feeling a little bit frustrated. There has been all this amazing public commentary in support of being and raising, strong, confident women. Girl power, yeah! That we should love ourselves unconditionally, not be afraid to speak out or stand up for what we believe in. Yet along side this amazing feminist pep talk it feels like there is a stronger one telling us that we should be 'small'.

Students are returning to school across Australia today. My two eldest boys, in high school start today, while my youngest daughter in Grade 5 returns tomorrow. We've planned a mummy-daughter day which includes canoeing on our dam (that is if the canoe has not sunk to the bottom of the dam) and making doughnuts! -

Back to school jitters
Back to school comes with a long 'to do' list. There is the stationery, trending lunchbox, school uniforms (how do they grow so fast??), shoes, haircuts ... and then you have to label everything! But beyond these logistics for many kids going back to school can be a nerve wracking, particularly if this involves a new school or the transition to high school. -
